Is 6 months old too early to encourage crawling?

My daughter has been rolling over for over a month now, She is also now sitting on her own and moving smoothly into a crawling position from there. She is up on her knees and rocking so I have started sitting in front of her and encouraging her to go forward, but after a little bit she gets frustrated I think and gets upset. Should I not be encouraging her so soon?

  1. You can encourage your child to crawl, there is nothing wrong with that. However, if she is not ready, that does not mean that something is wrong. As a matter of fact, I never crawled, and I turned out ok. So don't worry. Enjoy every stage of your daughter's life, they grow up so fast.

  2. It's never wrong to encourage a child.

    Don't over do it.

Clap and smile when she tries.  Distract her with a toy when she seems upset.

  3. No, my niece was crawling at 5 months. I would move her toys just out of her reach to encourage her. It didn't take long to get the hang of it.

  4. not at all lots of babies start crawling at 5 months

  5. It all really depends on your child.  give her time to play on the floor, if she wants to get goin she will.  I've had 5 kids of my own, and they all started at different ages.  bubu started at 4 1/2 months, and has been a force to reckon with since.  Encourage her, but dont get discouraged if she doesn't start.  She'll get moving in her own good time.
