Is 680 Kpix very good?

Question

Im looking at different cameras and am trying to find a good camera with good sensor resolution, optical zoom, and night vision and is one that looks nice and doesn't look deformed like aiptek camcorders...well my first question is if 680 kpix for sensor resolution is good...and my second is if there is a camcorder with all those functions and is around $300 or less.
