I just bought a Samsung 32 inch LCD that's a 720p/1080i TV. Which one has a better picture quality for Blu-Rays?

  1. I think that 720p is slightly better. It's barely noticeable unless you are really looking.

  2. True Blue Ray is 1080p (progressive) and no less. 1080i (interlaced) is HD. 720p is enhanced Def (not true HD).

Since you don't have a 1080progressive LCD, the answer is neither and both. 1080 lines of resolution is technically better than 720, but because yours is interlaced, it will not look as good as 720p when watching high-action scenes. Images moving across the screen will blur as they go past.

When viewing low-action, 1080i will look crisper. The best of both worlds is to get high resolution and progressive at the same time - which is Blue-Ray.

  3. On a tv that small 720p for sure. On something bigger, maybe in the 40's or up, 1080i would maybe look better. With 720p you get smoother motion and with 1080i you get better resolution, but since it's so small it really wouldn't benefit from the extra resolution as much as it would from the smooth motion.

  4. i just bought a 1080p Toshiba.

after months and months of looking, I'm left with the following conclusions:

    1. some 720p's and better than some 1080p's

    2. 1080i was replaced for a reason

    3. LCD = Lose Considerable Dollars

I would go with the 720p because of the differences in the way that the "i" (interlaced) handles imagery. the "p" (progressive) handles things "much better".
