Hi,

I'm a single moving to Houston TX, and I was wondering how expensive living expenses are around that area.

Also what kind of life quality I would be able to afford with such income living by myself.

thanks!

  1. You should be perfectly fine. You aren't going to live in River Oaks on that but by yourself you should be fine in a decent neighborhood that's secure.

The biggest thing to avoid when selecting a location is to have a long commute to work. Traffic is really bad. There are nice neighborhoods all over Houston. If you had kids this might have made a difference from a school district standpoint but since you haven't any then schools are not a priority.

I'd look into a nice condo personally until you learn the area enough to know where you might wish to buy. The apartments have a tendency to go down hill pretty fast and frankly have a higher then average crime issue.

    Welcome to Houston!

  2. Yes, the median income for Texas is 56,606 for a four-person family.  While there are some counties that have the highest income, it is around $82K for the highest areas.

    Best of luck to you!
