Is 9 ball Pool just a waste of time?

I appreciate a good game of 8 ball pool, but 9 ball to me just seems like a shadow of 8 ball. Although 9 ball may be a professional sport and 8 ball is not, i still will love 8 ball more than 9 till the day I die.
