I'm going to start running on a normal basis in the next week. My goal, is to get it down to seven minutes. I would just like to know if it is a good time for a starter.

  1. its pretty good. im 15 and i do like a 9:25 mile. but i know a few guys that can do a 6 min. mile.

  2. it's ok for since you don't run much yet, just start working on long distance runs if you want to decrease your mile time as of right now mine is (4:59) though i am 16 (been running almost a year now) i started out with a 7:12 and droipped it down that much in less then a year, so as long as you do LONG running work outs your time will get onsiderably better

  3. i ran track all throughout JR high and could run a mile at 12 in 6:38. 8.5 mins is ok, but if you run 1 mile every other day for 2 weeks, i guarantee you'll cut your time down by a minute at least.

  4. That's good! Most 12 year old's can't do that but if your worried because you do track or something and kids are beating you it because they aren't that many average to bad runners that run in races. Going from 8 and 1/2 to 7 might be hard though don't get discouraged :).

  5. that's great.......

  6. perfect time for a starter you will be running a 6 minute mile in about 1-2 months

  7. Not really. Want to be at all competitive you got to get your time under 7 minutes. I'm 13 and my top mile time is 6:15 but I'm just average the fast kids can do it in 5:08.

  8. not really good its ok

    when i was in 4th grade 10 years old i ran a 7min 15 sec mile

  9. yes very healthy great u should go on the cross country team (if u keep running) when u reach high school

  10. Well you're gonna have a lot of work to do to bring it down a whole minute and a half- but it's a good goal. Work on finding the right pace for you. I ALWAYS had trouble with that.

  11. yeah its pretty super duper

  12. To a good degree, that can depend on your individual height, weight, developmental level, etc.

It's not at all bad (and most adults would be plenty happy to do it), but it's probably not at the level where I'd be planning a career as a professional runner just yet. You could have a far worse starting point though.

  13. it's good for a 15 year old...well better then me

  14. it is pretty good but most people that are in pretty god shape can run a mile in 7 min. 30 sec. to 8 min.

  15. Your goal should be 8 minutes right now. You shouldn't expect to drop a minute and a half right away, you need to make smaller goals, or you will get discouraged. Weather that is a good time depends on if you are a boy or a girl. For a girl, I'd say you're off to a great start. At age 11 I ran an 8 minute mile, and now I'm at 5:30. For a boy, that is still not a bad start. Just take small steps, and once you are in High School I'm sure you'll be Varsity!
