  1. he is not a clutch hitter, and last year he was so bad at the playoffs.. he is overpaid.. i am a yankee fan, but i do not like him, he is a good player though at times.. maybe he needs to go out a get a little....lol... maybe he will be better. lol

  2. The man has a chance to be the best baseball player since Ruth, perhaps. He has been a consistent contributor over the years. His biggest problem is that at times he thinks and cares a little too much, but that's part of the package.

If you don't want him, I'll take him for my team.

  3. Definately this season. He has 3 rbi's in the 7th inning or later all of this season. definately not  clutch

  4. You guys are buying into the ESPN hype machine. Sure, A-Rod has had some failures in big spots, but there are players who have done worse.

All of you singling out A-Rod are only doing so because you haven't looked elsewhere. Or aren't willing to.

  5. got that right

  6. Sure. I'm always willing to pile on A-Rod and the Yankees.

edit: ROTFLMAO....whew, boy. Neuman. That's a good one. A-Rod bats .279 in some sort of non-specific, late game situations...which, according to your logic is "not too bad." Sure, it's not too bad if you're Von Hayes. I kind of expect more, though, from the guy who will probably be the all-time home run king and a lifetime .300 plus hitter.

Anyway, the rest of us all saw him go 0-5 against the Red Sox last week and will form our opinions based upon that.

  7. Close And Late Statistic - results in the 7th inning or later with the batting team either ahead by one run, tied or with the potential tying run at least on deck.

A-ROD is batting .279 in this statistic, not bad...

  8. yup you cant really rely on him this season.  he had and 0-5 game against the red sox.  so yes he is the worst clutch hitter.

  9. I usually call Carlos Beltran "Sir Chokes A Lot", but I think A-Rod deserves it more.

  10. Yeah he's definitely up there.

And the girl above me clearly has no clue what clutch means.

Yankee Fever: Clutch is how well a player preforms under pressure and when the team really needs you to come true. ARod's 28 home runs when the team is winning 6-0 are not clutch home runs.

  11. I'm sure there are players who are less clutch then Alex. Are you singaling him out becuase the amount he gets paid. I hate to break it to you but he is not the only plyaer on the Yankees and is therefore not the only reason the Yankees are struggling. Jeter has also been struggling, the bullpen is struggling Robbie made an error as well. Arod is not the entire Yankee team he is one man.

As  a Yankee fan yes I am frustrated because he's supposed to be a great player but doesn't come up in the clutch but lately not a lot of the Yankees have come up clutch either.

  12. No.  He has been better in "non-clutch" situations this year, but he outslugs league average in RISP situations and has a significantly better OBP.

He is not doing well this year for a great player.  But he is still better than average.

So, the question is flawed from the start.

  13. I can't think of anything less clutch than batting .308 with 28 homeruns.

EDIT: I didn't mean to confuse. I know what clutch means, but it's also my personal opinion that a player should do well the entire season. I think clutch is a bit overrated-- what about guys who do nothing all season but have a good day here or there?

Why does hitting in the clutch make them a better player? A-Rod is an all-around strong player. If you come through for your team over the course of a season and help them stay afloat and make it to the playoffs, you should have some sort of clout.

Everyone is going to have an off-day. Some players who get paid a lot of money to play on the biggest stage in the world have their off-days highlighted and plastered all over newspapers.

By definition, Brett Gardner of the Yankees is more clutch than A-Rod, but I'd rather have Alex playing on my team.

  14. I hate A-rod. and i think he is a bad Clutch hitter. He was a really good clutch hitter! He hit a HR against the Blue Jays but as for that he was 0 for 28 or something like that.

    Hope i helped!
