Is AMERICA headed for Decline / Fall?

Every great super power eventually crashes down to the ground if history is any indication of the future.

With the current economy, the direction of the Government, and the ever expanding GAP between the Rich and the Poor... what do you think America is in for in the next 20-30 years?

Is America falling? If not, how? and if so.. how fast?

  1. No.  The US is not headed for a crash.  It may decline a bit, but the US is strong and I expect it to still stay in one of the top countries no matter what.  Things will decline yes they will but they won't fall and collapse.  I think people are very concerned because of the poor economy.  The fact that Bush has messed up on the economy and other economic problems (not caused by him but still are problems- like gas prices from huge demand and bad weather from Australia to US)- trouble people, particuarly high food prices.  However, there is hope and we can take action now to help make this country better.  I have hope and I believe US can stay in top (hey Britian may have taken a fall during the world war, but they aren't doing too bad now.  they may not be a superpower but still are powerful).

  2. Well I think eventually we're headed for some bad times, but don't get ahead of yourself here.

The main trouble is that America consumes waayyy beyond its means. The average American is $7,000 in credit card debt. Furthermore, we have a growing trade deficit with China. Thats the bad news.

But never underestimate America's way to get things done. For example, we have the power to subsidize all of our industries while preventing other nations from doing the same. Also, we are the current information powerhouse of the world, so we can always innovate to help our economy.

I mean you're right, over all, there will probably be some bad times... But it's not complete Armageddon.

  3. America has already fallen.

  4. When the economy crashes the government will try to install marshall law . This will cause splinters in the nation . There will be areas where the federal government will control and others where there will be lawlessness or crime lords controlling these areas. There will be conflicts between these areas . Small pockets in the country side will operate free , but will be raided for there farm products and will defend as best as they can . It will be a whole new CHANGED country .

  5. Not a chance in h**l, we dismantled the world's 4th largest army in about 3 weeks.

  6. Decline is usually a slow ebb, the Roman Empire fell literally but its cultural influences disapeared slowly if at all and its shrinking Easten Empire lasted into the fifteenth century until the fall of Constantinople in the 1400s.  The last power Great Britain lost its empire but, aside from a period of post war austerity has a greater standard of living among its citizens than when its power was at its height.  America may find itself a weaker global voice as other spheres of inlfuence emerge over the next century (China, India etc.) but the effect on the average American may not be cataclysmic  Faced with having less influence abroad might even kick start its politicians into addressing more of the deomestic problems you have highlighted.
