  1. Good for what?

Self defense?  It's okay, but kickboxing, jujitsu, and krav maga are better.  I did kenpo for 3 years and it was a lot of fun, but we didn't spar very often and we spent a lot of time learning katas and unrealistic techniques.

  2. if you want practicle self defence yes kempo is a good style to do.

  3. You've already got a brown belt and your thinking about quitting, you don't even begin to get into the higher level concepts till after black. Krav mag is great great exercise, but is has been developed to learn quickly, no Kata's, no formalities, it's only been around 60 yrs. Really you would be learning less not more, a step down in my opinion. THERE IS NO SHORT CUTS TO BEING A EXPERT MARTIAL ARTIST, PLEASE DO NOT QUIT KENPO!

  4. Well it depends on what your looking for if your looking for health then something like taekwondo or if your looking for self defence jujitsu would be a good one. Try taking it for a day and see if you like it.

  5. Yes it is. Ive been taking Kempo for about 10 years now. At the minimum think of it like a class you hate; finish it and stop. You are so close to your blackbelt there isnt much of a point in stoping now. If you dont like, then take the extra 6 months get your black belt and quit.

  6. Yes!!!

If there was a kenpo club near myself I would have joined it a most excellent style and very effective :)***

  7. I have been in Kenpo for 18 years. If you have a good instructor there is no more complete art. You would be bored with any of the other arts mentioned and you are almost at a point where it would be silly to stop.

I trained with Frank Trejo and have found Brazilian JiuJitsu is not a very practical self defense and Tae Kwon Do would just bore you to tears. Krav Maga is Kenpo with less structure. If someone says the Techs are not realistic then they went to a McDojo. Mike Pick teaches Kenpo to Secial Forces, they don't waste their time with BS.

You're learning a science compared to the other watered down arts taught in America.

  8. No AMERICAN martial art is ever good to take. It's watered down and ignorant to most of the actual strikes, blocks, and philosophies of actual asian martial arts. Sorry. If you're going with a western art - boxing is the ONLY way to go.

  9. If you enjoy it, then stay. If you don't then leave. Regardless of what art you do, it's only good for as much effort as you put in.

And yes, in my opinion American Kenpo is a good martial art IF TAUGHT PROPERLY.

  10. It's a good style for self-defense and tournament fighting and since you got this far stick with it, If you decide latter to become a full contact fighter  a Kenpo background is good to have because kenpo fighters have a fighting spirit. and win a lot of matches.
