I know that most if not all soldiers wake at like 6a.m. for physical fitness, I am planning on starting my own workout routines once I'm in but don't want to over train.

  1. If you don't have permission from the CO or 1st SGT to skip PT, try not showing up and see what happens. That's a mistake you won't make twice.

  2. You only do what the sargent tells you to do and when

  3. It was when I was in.

    Now to I suppose.

  4. Mandatory.

  5. They tell you what to do and when to do it. There's the Army way and the wrong way...

  6. PT has been mandatory for my husband except on Thursday here at Fort Knox (not sure if it's the same everywhere) is no PT and early out. You do whatever your sgt tells you but basically yes be looking forward to it everyday. Rain, Sun, Snow, and Heat!!

  7. In some units they used to have it if you maxed your PT test you could come to formation and go on to do your own PT unless it was a group run such as company level or higher.

  8. Mandatory. You don't get to call your own shots. You get more leeway when you become an NCO but you don't get to pick and choose.

  9. During basic 0600 would be sleeping in.  Our first formation was usually between 0500-0530.  Basic was over 10 years ago for me.  After that usually 0630 for PT formation and yes it is mandatory.
