Definetely Abhinav deserves a better place.  We are tired of these cricketers, who are getting fame and finally end up making money by acting lot of ads.  Once in a while they win and they come up with same excuses, either they say, batsmens let us down, our bowlers did not bowl well, fielding was pathetic, weather was not good, we lost an important toss etc.,  

While winning a gold medal is a unique event and Abhinav has fought on his own, with very little support from any sporting body, as there is no BCCI to pamper him with multiple coaches (where we have fielding, bowling, batting etc)

This is a total c**p question. Abhinav Bindra is a shooting guy while M Dhoni is a cricketer which is a non-olympic game. So there is no criterion through which you can compare both. Comparison can be made only with 2 people sharing the same field and discipline like maybe MS Dhoni to Adam Gilchrist or MS Dhoni to Brendon McCullum or MS Dhoni (as batsman) to Virender Sehwag and so on... not to guys from other sports like shooting, boxing or even football.

Truly u can't compare them! Bindra is a shooting champ & Dhoni is a cricketer. I don't see any similarity in their sport! But Dhoni has much more to do than Bindra! Bindra only focuses on his shooting skills and he doesn't 've a team of 11 players to look-after but Dhoni has it! Dhoni has to focus on his criketing skills and also has to manage a team of 11 players on-field! But both are great in their field and both 've made our nation proud!

Hi Mac i guess your question is based on the credits and laurels brought to our country by these sportsmen. In that case plz do not even consider Dhoni .He might have won T20 world cup but its not big enough to b compared with an olympic gold!!!!! Thanks to Abhinav our country is 32nd ( current standings) among 203 countries. That is what should be called as recognition. Where as in T20 being first among few countries is something like a being a  big fish in a small pond. So definately Abhinav's records and feats has surpassed most of our indian athlete's records. Plz Plz do not compare dhoni or any other cricketer with Abhinav Bindra . They r miles away from what Abhinav has done.

With Di*K heads like JK and others who think dhoni and other cricketers are god, Our country is never ever gonna improve in sporting arena . Cricket is not even considered into olympics dude that shows the place wer cricket is placed then imagine the level of recognition these cricketers might get. And u people compare That stupid dhoni and cricketers to Abhinav What the F**k has our indian cricket team and dhoni done to our country apart from being on ads the whole time and winning some tournaments like cricket world cup and T20 , were there are only a few countries playing cricket and that too by default 9 test playing nations automatically qualify for world cup even without having any qualifiers like in athletics or football . This man abhinav has salvaged some pride of our nation and saved our A@s from sheer embarresment in olympics by winning the only gold medal and that too almost single handedly ie wit the help of his father who had supported him for his training. and This is how people treat and compare our olympians with good for nothing cricketers. India will remain in such a pitiable spot if people dont change perceptions about the real sports and their values and also about our  sportsmen and sportswomen and be ignorant.

DHONI is so much better than Bindra. I am sorry to tell you Indians this, but very few people watched or know about the shooting gold medals. If you asked any Chinese or American about Abhinav Bindra, they would give you blank stares. DHONI is actually an athlete. It takes very little athletic ability to shoot.
