My bf wanted to get one last year, but we decided he should wait till at least he is 21...now we decided we will try that hospital and I want to know if they are going to give us a hard time just because he is "young". If anybody knows some place near that hospital that will just do it with barely any questions asked, please tell!

  1. no, as long as he's 18 and can pay for it, it's his choice (just like an abortion)

  2. if they give you guys a problem, just tell them you have 4 kids and are on welfare...they should line him up for a snip pretty quick...

  3. I should hope that they WILL give him a hard time, because he's really too young to decide that he NEVER wants kids (or more kids, if he's a dad already). Although they can sometimes be reversed (at great difficulty and expense), a vasectomy is usually for life.

A typical vasectomy patient is aged mid 30s to 40s, married or in a very long term and stable relationship, and has already fathered all of the children he will ever want to.

At your age, what's wrong with using condoms, the pill, etc.... ?

Make sure he at least reads this:

  4. I got one at 21.  I have no kids at all.  They didn’t give me any trouble as I told them I already had a child.  Prior to that I had tried when I was 18, and at 19.  Both times I told them I didn't want children, so they tried to refer me to a mental health councilor.  But that was over 20 years ago.  Back then being "child-free" or not wanting children was considered a mental illness.  Today people are much more enlightened.

If they give any trouble, just go to a different doctor.  Usually non-profit clinics are less picky.

    Good luck
