  1. we made a stop there off of a cruise ship. It was the most beautiful sunset ever, stay in the tourist areas, beaches werent bad, we even parasailed.  Dont drink the water or eat the ice.

  2. I am retired and live here in Acapulco . Its a great town !  Beaches - Sand is not white but more coarse than typical beaches. The water and beach are clean. They have a group of people that walk it daily from one end o the other and pick up trash as they are fully aware of the tourist and his money. It is wide in some areas ( middle ) and a little narrow as you get on the north end ( marina ) . I hang out daily at Playa Diana. It is pretty much in the midle but what I like is you are near some large rocks that add intrest when swimming and shade when needed. Diana is easy to find - on the Costera there is  a large round water fountain with a woman ( Diana ) up top. All will know where this is - just ask.

People - natives here are great ! Of course all big cities have crime and a few bad apples. Just be street smart and use your instincts and you will be fine. Please be aware they are professional con men and bargainers. If you want to buy T shirts or something like that from the many vendors ALWAYS start at half of what thier asking and stand firm. Offer a fair price and walk way if needed and 8 out of 10 times , I swear , they will call you back and take the offer. They are good and let you get all the way to the walking stage before they back down. Remember this with the pesos - Take the price and divide by 10 and thats its value in dollars.

Getting around - Costera buses are blue and run the entire lenght of the bay. Cost is 4.50 pesos ( 45 cents ) and I call them amusment park rides. Some haul *** , others poke along. All have a " theme " to them like , Garfield , Glitter , He Man , The incredibles. It goes on and on. Some have flashing neon lights and music cranked ! You just never know. Air conditioned buses are alot nicer and are 5.50 pesos so take your pick. When you see somewhere that you want to stop , simply stand up and yell out - baja ( baa - haa ) it means drop off and he will do just that. There are no real " stops " . Taxis - For reference you could do a taxi the entire length of the Costera ( 15-20 miles ) for 50 pesos ( 5 dollars ) . Want to go say only 10 miles pay about 20 pesos. If the driver wants say 70 to 100 pesos for a jaunt somewhere hes ripping you off. Dont argue , give him what you think is right based on what I wrote and close the door. Dont worry he will take the money and move on.

Not worth it catagory - cliff divers , Puerta Marquis ( beach on south side , dirty and small ) resturants on the Costera ( expensive by natives standards and not authentic at all ) , Playa Colleta - again very small. Want good , cheap food. Find any street that is heading away from the Costera and walk up it and you'll find great little mom and pop street resturants that are fantastic !

My secret little beach !!!!! - Pie de la Cuesta !!!!

North end about 10 miles out. Green buses near the marina with - Pie de la Cuesta AND Playa Luces will take you there. Stay on that bus all the way out. He will go past the air base about 3 mile past it and turn around . This is where I hang out. When he turns around you have to get off and thats where you want to be. Get off and grab some beers and snacks and head down one of the many ally ways to the beach. MAN THE BEACH !!!  Totally deserted and wide ( about 50 yards but DESERTED ). The waves are incredible !!!  I have seen some 30 footers ! Normally about 10 footers which is nothing to laugh at either . I sit there and watch these monsters build and crash all day . Simply incredible !!  Dont go out and play in them as you can get killed . No joke , Im a good swimmer and I got wrapped up in one or two and I wont do it anymore !  The most beautiful sunsets in the world !!!  There is a lagoon on the inside that you can wash off in and jet ski and water ski. Do yourself a favor and go to Pie de la Cuesta. Just magical. Want a taxi - from the Costera Id pay 100 pesos no more than 150. Need lunch or more beer - head up and ally way and there will be a store for you. Many good resturants there too. You tube has some videos of " the Pie " and so does googling - Pie de la Cuesta. Do your self a favor for a day and check it out - Youll thank me !!!

Best time - New years Eve on the beach. Ive travelled the world and the fireworks show is incredible !!!  The Navy actually joins in and launches them from the other side of the mtn range . They reflect off the water and then the party afterwards !!!   Oh my !!!

Hope all this helps and if you need more connect over to me and I will be glad to help you out. Go to Pie de la Cuesta though thats my lttle slice of paradise

  3. I have been going to ACA for twenty six years and in my opinion is the best place on the planet between Dec and April.

Acapulco is the original tourist destination .

There are two huge lagoons one east and one west and both offer all sorts of activities.

The unique thing to Acapulco are the cliff divers.

A cruise can be had at night to the Quebrada and the divers dive from high up in the cliffs with a flare in each hand and the bar is open for $25.00 usd

In the day you can go to the island of Roqueta and they release "Beer drinking donkeys" If you have never seen a drunken donkey --its quite a sight.

There are great hills to walk and there are several gymnasisos that cost $20--25 usd a month.

The Zocalo is very popular and there is a show every night.

    Fishing tours are in abundance.

There are two huge Wall-Marts for your shopping needs.

We have a guy from Chicago and we call him "Drunken Jimmy" and I have seen him in action--glasses on c sideways

and barely standing.  He is now very well known to the local cops and they pick him up and throw him in the back of the pick up and drive around doing their biz and when Jimmy sobers up they release him to a taxi

  4. it is a good tourist place, but if you are looking for white sand and clean water the bay of acapulco is not really that, the nightlife is good, but the beaches not really, the sand is not white(nothing like the caribean) i've been there once a year for about ten years, i like it, the water is warm, the people are VERY friendly, i got robed only one time on the beach they took my purse with carkeys and credit cards in it, i told the cops and they tried to help me but couln't find nothing, another words, acapulco is worth to go for the nightlife, not for the beaches, they are not exactly very clean, but still you can go to places close enough to acapulco where the beaches are clean, like going towards the airport there are some good beaches, that are a little cleaner and way less crowded. good luck enjoy your trip
