  1. Yes, that's why they show city driving and highway for the miles per gallon ratings on cars.

As for a flat out correlative equation, it would depend on the car, but I imagine one could be determined with significant testing.  When accelerating the car uses fuel to break inertia, where once the car is in motion it's a lot "easier" for the car to maintain the velocity.

  2. yes. If you drove at a constant speed, no acceleration, then you use less energy, ie, less gasoline.

But there are lots of other factors, with air resistance, friction, weight, size being the biggest.

    .

  3. Depends on the intensity and duration of the acceleration. Generally, I notice that fast acceleration to a higher gear reduces gas mileage but it only helps a lot if you don't have to come to a stop shortly thereafter. In city traffic it is generally best not to accelerate too fast, but you have to take your fellow drivers into account too. You also shouldn't risk getting a ticket due to obstruction of traffic by not going with the flow of traffic. I know, happens rarely, but it did happen to a friend of mine in LA.

  4.     Yes sudden starts and stop cause a great deal of gas usage.

If you try running fast and stopping suddenly over and over again for a block, you will tire faster than if you ran the same block at a steady pace, the same applies to driving you car.

  5. yes the more u accelerate the more gas u use. so when ur in the city and ur lookin to ur left and see someone u wanna speed past  think about it again cause with these gas prices its not wise.
