I know a lot of people are going to say "Just name her Erin!" but is Aeryn really so bad? The pronunciation is a LITTLE different, plus the father is partially Irish. Can you give me your thoughts?

  1. The name is fine but the spelling is atrocious and she will be correcting people the rest of her life. Do you really want to inflict that on her? It looks like you're trying too hard to be different. No there is not a pronunciation difference between the two.

  2. How is the pronunciation different?

If you're naming her that because her father is Irish then I think it's fine. It's just annoying when parents name their kids Rhanii instead of Ronnie when there's no purpose.

  3. I absolutely LOVE it!!!!! yeah, maybe she'll have to spell it out for people, but I think anyone named Erin would, there is lots of ways to spell it (Erin, Arin, Aron, etc.). It's beautiful and you should name her that.

  4. To be honest, before I read that it was pronounced "Erin", I thought it was pronounced "Aryan"...which wouldn't be a very good thing to name a child due it's negative connotation.

  5. Aeryn doesn't remind me of Erin... it reminds me of Aaron.

If you're going for the Aaron sound, go with Aeryn. I don't care for it because it looks a bit trendy to me, but I definitely like it better than Erin.

  6. Erin is an Irish name. Aeryn just looks like you are trying too hard to be different.

  7. I like Aerin as a spelling for Erin!

    Aerin Elise

  8. I think it's cool.

I knew exactly how to say it when I read it.

You might change your mind when she's born, though.  :-D

My husband named one of our twins Maya.

He asked me how it should be spelled.

I was going to spell it Maia or Mya but in the end I chose Maya, the most common spelling, to make it easy on her in life.

I like your spelling, though.  I think it's really cool!

I have a very common name with a ZILLION ways to spell it and I'm always spelling out my name so it's not a huge deal... but I worried that people wouldn't know how to pronounce it professionally or in school if it was Maia especially.

Turns out even Maya is hard in this area of the country.  My aunt was calling her May-uh for a long time.  Like the month of May with an uh on the end.  Ugh!

  9. My personal opinion in regards to names that have spellings so bizarre that none of their teachers or classmates or friends will be able to spell them is not in your favor.  Although this might be a unique name and a more common spelling in Ireland, for example, it's not in the U.S. and your child will spend a lifetime telling people how to spell her name.  I have a weird last name and no one that looks at it the first time says it right and even that is frustrating.

  10. She will have to spell out her name for the rest of her life!

  11. Spell it however you and your husband prefer and don't worry about it so much.

  12. SO CUTE! AND IT'S BETTER THEN BORING "ERIN" the 'A' makes the name more feminine

  13. I like it. Its different, but not a "fake" name. But you will never find a licence plate for her bicycle with that name on it.

  14. I really like it, and like this spelling much better than Erin.
