Is Africa and Alaska countries?

In Africa there is countries in it but i always thought africa was a country?

What about alaska?

cos i thought it was but it is not on this list

Alaska is a state of the USA and not a country on it's own.  Africa is a continent and has many countries within it.  Hope this answers your question.

Alaska was a former territory of Russia, but the US bought it. so its a state of US, not another country. Africa on the other hand, is the continent south of Europe. Egypt, Kenya and Madagascar are some countries in Africa

The other answers are correct:  Alaska is a US state (larger than most of the countries in the world) and Africa is a continent with many countries.

However, your confusion about Africa is understandable.  New reports very often refer to "Africa" as though it was a single country, and the news media doesn't do that when speaking of Asia, South America, or even Europe.  Also, there is a movement in Africa for a "United States of Africa" or at least a political arrangement like the European Union (which is NOT a country
