  1. I think so

  2. You won't fly a CRJ at ATP.  They have a CRJ simulator, I believe...but no way do they have a real CRJ.  Biggest thing you'll fly there is a Piper Seminole.  You have to get hired by an airline in order to have a realistic chance at flying something the size of a CRJ.  The airline will then finance the training for the particular type of aircraft they fly (in most circumstances).  Training in a real CRJ to get your ratings would cost a tiny bit more than 60K ;-)  A CRJ burns about 800 pounds of fuel per hour on both engines when IDLING.  Thats about 120 gallons per hour at idle.  With jet fuel at around $7 a gallon, thats about $800 bucks an hour just for fuel at idle.  250 hours to get your commercial certificate...250 x 800, and you're already over $200,000 JUST to pay for fuel burned while idling.  Good luck financing that one!

  3. I happen to think they have good flight training packages. They offer the fast track college dorm type package, or the fly & train at your own pace package. Their packages are a bit pricey, but then what in aviation isn`t? Their pricing is comparable to other schools their size.

If you want a good aviation school and don`t mind going to a university, go to Utah Valley University in Provo, Utah. ATP happens to be associated with them and their correspondance course they offer. So you don`t even have to attend their school at all. You can do all this online, and do all your flying locally where ever you live. Check out their website www.uvu.edu for more info. If ATP is your choice they will assign you a flight advisor to answer any questions you may have, if you are interested.

  4. my friend you have to crawl before you walk, there is no school in the world that will throw you directly to the left seat of an airliner from zero time and start your flight training from there, nevertheless an airline will hire you with just a type rating lets say of a boeing 737, you will have to rack some good amount of hours in your logbook in that specific airplane, my advise to you is dont get so much in love with those liners', is not about the plane the pilot is flying, is more about the pilot who's flying the plane, focus on that little cessna and maybe later something else will come.

  5. You need to do some research on how flight training works.

You will begin flying small, single engine airplanes regardless of where you go to learn.  Once you have your commercial license and some hours under your belt, and you decide you want to fly for an airline then you take whatever you can get. That usually means flying turbo props and RJ's. Once you have some time there, usually a few years, you can get a job at a larger airline flying bigger airlines.  Its just like any other job, you don't graduate high school and become the president of a major company the next week. Baby steps.

As for ATP being a good school, I say no. If you have your private license and want to go to ATP to get your ratings then thats your business. I wouldn't do it, but some people swear by it.

I would strongly recommend you do your initial training somewhere close to home at a small airport with a FBO or small flight school.  You will save yourself thousands of dollars and when you are done there is a good chance you will still enjoy flying.  I went an an airline academy and if your focus is getting a job at an airline then its ok, but if you want to enjoy flying and have fun with it, stay away from the big schools.
