As in I don't have to have the pink slip on a car to sell it, since I've already had to verify ownership of the car when I registered it after buying it.

  1. No.  Some states have gone to electronic paperless titles for cars, but in all states cars are sold by title.  If you have lost the title, and are the owner of the vehicle, you can apply for a duplicate title if you want to sell it, but you can't sell it without a title.

And when you registered it, that only established you as the registered owner.  If it was financed, the legal owner would have been the bank, so registration proves nothing.

  2. Unless it was made before 1975, it has to have a title.  You should have gotten a title from the prier owner and presented it when you registered the car.  From the info on that title, an application for a new title made out to you would have been made.  In a few weeks you should have gotten a title if the car was free and clear from any liens and such.  Also you have to keep the title application in the car as a permit to operate the car.  Read up on the code of Alabama here>>>> http://alisdb.legislature.state.al.us/ac...  >>>>

  3. Alabama requires a title be signed over legally to the new owner.
