Is Albus Dumbledore still alive even though he is dead?

I was wondering if the picture in the head master's office of the disceased headmasters (Mainly Dumbledore) are still Alive? I remember Severus took the picture and the sword with him when he set the sword of Grifindor in the water, acting on Albus's orders. While he is in the painting, is he actually alive? Could Harry and Albus actually discuss things? Laugh? Reminise? Would the photo that is talking be the same Albus that shouuld be in heaven, or maybe was it just a piece of his soul left behind that was bewitched to talk in a picture. And also, what about that conversation at Kings Cross? Was that real? I mean, cause if that stuff was real, I think we have very much underestimated Albus Dumbledore's magical ability. Also, why is Severus's Picture not in the HM office? Please elaborate. Thanks.

  1. no he is dead(murdered by snape)

snape was speaking to his picture(like hermoine speaking to phineas)

in the conversation(king's cross) dumbledore had'nt come back from the dead.it was happening in harry's head.

snape's picture didn't appear becoz he didn't retire or leave. people did'nt know that he was dead until harry told 'em.

  2. No Dumbeldore isn't still alive but i don't know how he can be talking in a picture.

  3. His spirit and soul is alive, which should be good enough for anyone. After all, where would we be without them?

  4. No, the picture are not alive. I think they are "imprints of departed souls", like ghosts are described. Albus's grave certainly proves he is dead. But Harry and Albus could probably have a conversation, yes, like Hermione interrogates Phineas in Deathly Hallows. I don't think the portrait is part of his soul, more a shadow of his soul, like the painting has been bewitched to act like him.

As for the conversation in KC, Dumbledore confuses me by saying, "of course it's in your head, Harry, but even so, hy shouldn't it be real?". I think we can pput this down to Dumbledore's logic.

Snape's portrait doesn't appear in the last chapter of DH as the other teachers considered him to be a deserter for leaving (so they thought) t join Voldemort at the start of the Battle of Hogwarts. JKR said in an interview, however, that Harry campaignedto have the protrait installed after the events of Deathly Hallows.

  5. yes it was rather very confusing i mean the head masters die ..they DIE... they're supposed to be gone but they're in a portrait talking and joining each other and giving orders ...it's completely ridiculous ..but of course i wouldn't dare call any thing in harry potter ridiculous!

i think it was strange that if Rowling created the photos or photographic pictures only moving not speaking (like she showed us in all the series) then why did she create the portraits especially talking and some what alive, aren't portraits pictures as well?!!!!

well i think it was some what acceptable that dumbledore stayed in the portrait and talking to snape and giving orders because maybe a fragment of his soul is placed between the frames of the portrait were he thinks and responds with only one draw back that they get to spend eternity imprisoned in a frame unable to get out or feel his body (maybe even have to smile all the while when he's not talking ha ha)

about king's cross i think it was just harry's subconscious that made him see dumbledore, like yes it was all in his mind because he wasn't really dead, because voldemort was still alive with harry's blood voldemort gave him his immunity the same way that harry gave voldemort his mum's protection... the chapter is confusing but i think it was a really good chapter and mainly for adults to understand because all the baby cries and king cross's explanation was a bit vague and some what not understandable but it was really intense!!!

  6. that is what i  thought i too... WE NEED MORE DETAILS!

  7. No, he isn't alive.

    It is just an echo.

Rowling noted in an online interview that because Snape abandoned his post before dying or officially retiring, a portrait of him does not immediately appear in the Headmaster's office following his death. She adds, however, that she would like to think Harry made Snape's true loyalty and heroism known in the Wizarding world, and that he lobbied to ensure that a portrait be installed in the office

  8. He is alive in all of us, my dear.

He is alive in all of us.
