  1. Honestly, I would buy golf clubs used online from www.globalgolf.com or new from www.rockbottomgolf.com. Global golf has both used and new whereas rockbottomgolf only sell new but still selling great deals on golf clubs. I would not recommend globalgolf for new golf clubs though.

For limited time, you can get a set of Tour Edge HP5 iron set for just $99 at RBG. Since you're buying online, chances are, you don't have to pay taxes. At globalgolf, you get free shipping with a purchase over $100 and that can easily be reached with golf clubs, new or used. They also offer a year subscription to Golf magazine for first time buyers. I don't endorse any of those two companies but I like them both equally. I HIGHLY suggest you visit them before you make the purchase at Big5.

If you have to buy it from Big 5, I would suggest the Wilson set for a little more $ but if you have to buy one set between Alien or Nitro, I would go with Alien because it has hybrid clubs and $10 cheaper. Seriously though, with $160, I can select a golf set easily from Global golf, that is, if you don't mind a little scratch or slightly used golf clubs.

Either way, good luck! Email me what you end up buying.

  2. buying used would definately be the way to go. BUT you'd be hard pressed to find a bag, irons, woods, putter for <$160. if you're just a beginner go ahead and just get the alien, i doubt you'll see much difference from any of those starter sets. as u get better, then u can upgrade your equipment where u find u need it. ie if u want a better putter, driver, wedges...wutever...

but when u do upgrade definately goto RBG or globalgolf. they are great retailers with great prices. for now, buy the cheapest set, and spend your money on lessons and greens fees. they'll help u play better more than the clubs will.

  3. Hi,

    I would choose Nitro.
