  1. country

  2. None of the above.  The United States of America is a Country, North America and South America are continents, but "America" on it's own is a generic term that can refer to any of those three things.

  3. umm wow.

well america honey is in north america,

north america is a content, america is a country,

as for u dear u are clueless [:

    lol im jk.

  4. The United States of America is a country.

North America is a continent comprised of the USA, Canada, and Mexico.

South America is a continent below Mexico.

    Hope this helps.

  5. America, (usa) is a country. It is on the continent of North America.

  6. The United States of America is a country, whereas North America is a continent.

  7. Well, as others have answered America is a continent, well 2 continents here in the U.S.A. but in some parts of the world they teach that America (north and south) is one continent.  (Also that Europe and Asia are one continent Eurasia).

My wife and I have agreed to disagree on the number of continents.

  8. america is not a country or a continent it is an abbreviated or shortened form of either the United States of America (country) or North or South America (continents) hope this is helpful

  9. When I grew up in The Netherlands (Europe) we learned that AMERIKA (America) was a continent discovered by Christoffer Columbus. As such this was before there was a Unites States of America.

    .

It is the same with Australia, which refers to the continent of Australia and not to the federation called Commonwealth of Australia, even so in general slang people refer to Australia referring to the country Australia, which in fact doesn’t exist as such. This, as the Framers of the Constitution made clear that the "Commonwealth of Australia" would be no more then a “POLITICAL UNION” between the colonies (now States) as is the European Union in Europe.

    .

People talk about being Australian, which really means being born in the continent Australia. The Federal Government even created “AUSTRALIAN CITIZENSHIP” as meaning Australian nationality  even so this is a nonsense of a term as the Framers of the Constitution made clear that “Australian citizenship” is AUTOMATICALLY derived from being a State citizen, which is a political status (including franchise) and the Commonwealth would have no constitutional powers to define/declare this.

Indeed on 2-3-1898 Edmund Barton (later Prime minister and subsequently judge of the High Court of Australia) made clear that “we are all alike subjects of the British Crown”.

    .

What should be understood therefore is that as like Australians being this because they reside in the continent Australia, irrespective of their nationality, the same is applicable to Americans that they are Americans because they reside in the continent as discovered then as America. What eventuated later as to calling different parts of the continent by different names and applying different statuses in itself cannot alter the fact that the continent known as America remains to be so.

Legislators may desire for their own reasons to intimidate people by their own usage to slowly trying to twist the real meaning of the term America somehow belonging only to residents of the United States of America but reality is that before the creation of the USA the continent known as America then already existed and therefore anyone who resides in the continent America is an American.
