China has a lot more people in their armed forces, if you want to measure it that way. We're also stretched pretty thin right now. We would have a pretty tough time if we were to get into a third conflict.

We are! we could win a war with out even sending troops! the reason we sent troops to iraq is because we were looking for people to capture! but if we were to go to war with china the worlds largest military and by that i mean soldiers we would kill them all before they even declared it a war! If you don't now we got planes that need no humans to fly them that can fly over and bomb places and spy! not to mention if we were to go into a world war there would be hella people drafted or joining the army!

America has the strongest military.

We can hit anywhere in the world any time we want.  Do you think any other country could cross an ocean and give the beat down to other countries like we did this century?  We got the best equipment and best trained troops in the world, Israel included.  We could easily increase the size of the military if we needed to, hack we could recruit plenty of citizens of other countries to fight for us.  China might have more people but that just means over half would starve without even seeing their opponent.

People who think the USA is the strongest military power in the world are mistaken.  It is a very big mistake to underestimate the Peoples Libertion Army of Mainland China.

America cannot rely on its hardware.  China is willing to accept levels of casualties (civilian and miltiary) that would not be acceptable to Americans.

I wish it were not so.  I live in Taiwan, and the PLA points missiles at us.

The US has the most powerful military in the world. I would like to see China try to fight half way across the world. The chinese are certainly a threat with their ground forces (though not well trained, and with the majority ill equipped, they could use russian wave tactics), but their navy and air force leave much to be desired. Their logistics leave them trapped in China. Russia is a shadow of its former self. those are the only contenders people can even think of.

If you go by troop numbers, the USA runs a distant 6th to China, India, North Korea, South Korea and Pakistan.  

If you go by weaponry, the US.

Depends on how you want to measure strength? Our technology is overall the most advanced in the world, but China has loads of man power and not afraid to take heavy casualties. And China has some pretty advanced technology also. From what civilians think we know the USA has more nukes than China, and also has more advanced technology to strike with them, but when your talking about 10,000+ does the number of nukes really matter. Over all it would be a show down! I think in an all out war between USA and China, Americans would have to be completely ruthless, large numbers would have to be drafted or sign up for service. And if the nukes start flying its close to a dooms day scenario. Scary!!!  However India will not have a better Air force anytime soon. They just put out a request for proposal on 120+ multi role fighter aircraft, which means who ever sells them the jets would have a superior air force to India, and out of the 6 aircraft requested 2 were US aircraft. Many countries can match the aircraft performance of the US planes as far as maneuverability and speed, but the weapon systems and stealth technology are unmatched any were in the world. Sure they may design a plane to out maneuver a F-22 in a close combat dogfight. The thing is that before they figure out there is even an f-22 in the area they will be dead. Also the F-22 can already out maneuver the pilots ability to stay conscious, so now it is really a stealth/weapon systems battle of which the USA in currently winning.
