  1. American citizens have not one freedom more than citizens in any Western European country except the right to bear arms, we have freedom of speech assembly, religion and so one.  Most European countries have more freedom where it comes to sexuality, gender issues, personal lifestyle choices and even freedom of speech in many ways. A lot of the censorship in the mainstream American media, bluring out bad words or gestures, doesn't happen at all in countries like the Netherlands, Belgium, Germany or Sweden

  2. I've lived in many places around the world:  africa, asia, central america, europe and america. mostly america, but have lived and been a parent and a photo-journalist in other countries.  i don't think america is unique in freedom, it is unique in propaganda.  there are things we're not free to disagree with here.  there are only two political parties, which is ridiculous for a country which touts itself as the leader of the free world.  also, we enslave poor people so that we can shop at wal-mart and buy cheap c**p.  we just don't let those poor people into the US so we don't have to bother our conciences with it.

we're pretty free, but not terribly unique.  we cause havoc all over the world, we have a lot of blood on our hands.  we cause other countries to not be free.  we have overthrown many a democratically elected government.

if you watch the news from anywhere in the world outside of the US, you understand why so many people hate us.

i'm not saying that we're bad people, but we've got some terribly painful policies which hurt a lot of other people and we have to own up to that.
