  1. The odds of any of the major (legacy) airlines actually going out of business are very very slim.

    It's likely that one or more of them will enter (or re-enter) bankruptcy if oil prices spike again, but that won't shut them down.  

    American has one of the better cash positions, United and US Air would be the most likely candidates in my book.


  2. Not in the foreseeable future.  As far as airlines go, they are in pretty good shape.

    they have so many passengers to do that they can not!! do that they will loose so much respect and no one will really like that & + there is no reason for them to they are a good airline!!!!!

  4. I don't think so, at this point. And I certainly hope not, since I have beaucoups of miles on AA, and own stock!

    But the chances of AA or one of the other major legacy carriers going under are hardly "very very slim."  In fact, I think it's more likely than not that one will go away in the next few years. Airline execs seem to think the same thing, and are scrambling to not be the one.
