  1. yes , i was driving there

  2. A good place to look for that and other information is the Fodor's Tour book of Italy.  Worth picking up a copy.  Would probably answer your question.

AAA can sell you an International Drivers Permit.  This is a document that when presented with your US License translates it into about 8 or so languages.  Probably not a bad thing to have if you plan to drive in Italy.

  3. Nope. You have to get an international drivers license to drive in Italy legally.

Careful too.... Driving in Europe is different than in America. They go faster, are quicker on the ball and have no patience for people that take their time.

    Different road signs as well.

  4. if you're a tourist visiting for a short period of time yes, but if you want to stay for an extended period you should get an international driving permit, and if you want to live there full time, you should get an italian driver's license after about a year or so. rememberr: in italy they drive more aggresivley but they are also more alert tham americans (if you're american) while driving. The highways with the best etiquite are thr autostrades, but you have to pay to use them.

  5. Yes, your license is valid there.

I would recommend not driving into Florence, every car entering the city is photographed and if you don't properly register it a surprisingly large fine will appear on your rental statement.  Non-residents are not allowed to park in the city centre - and hotel opperated lots are about 20euros a day.

  6. no

  7. NOPE...sry ♥

  8. Yes, for temporary stays and mostly for rental cars. Remember that  most cars in Europe are standard transmissions, and an automatic car will cost extra.

I'd go with an American agency for a car rental. Although more, you get less hassle.

But why drive when the trains are so cheap and convenient? Just don't travel by train during a saints day or holiday.
