Is Amir Khan the man with ‘all show no go’? – Boxing Special
It has been two months since Amir Khan lost his titles to Lamont Peterson, yet the former champion has not stopped cribbing over it. Even though he got his rematch sooner than most people thought, Amir Khan still chose to hit Lamont Peterson whenever and
wherever he could. Since his defeat to Peterson, we have seen Khan on the television, radio and every other possible place. At times he talks about how he is going to beat Peterson and at times he talks about his training and how well he will prepare. After
all of this, the major question that pops up is whether Khan is really that good or is he just an overconfident defeated champion who still believes he wears the unified IBF and WBA super lightweight titles around his waist.
Recently, Khan spoke about his training camp and that he will going to this secluded village to train with Manny Pacquiao, the current WBO welterweight champion. He elaborated saying that the village offers peace and great groundwork for preparing steel
hard for bouts. It sure was an impressive way of intimidating his opponent, but it was very obvious that Khan is just trying prove his supremacy.
Then, in another interview, Khan said that his fans and friends still think he is the champion. His exact words were, “People still say I'm the champ. At no time has he said he won the first fight. It's all about how you come back from these fights and I
always come back stronger. There aren't that many British world champions out there and I'm going to be one again. I'm going to be ready for everything he brings to the table.”
Some of his comments have even irked his opponent Peterson. In his recent interview, frustrated Peterson said, “Whether it's coming inside and throwing hooks or standing outside and throwing straight shots, I'm going to work on his body.”
Keeping all this in mind, it is quite apparent that Amir Khan is just trying to play mind tricks on Peterson, whereas Peterson is spending all his time making up his mind for the big day. However, what is important here for Amir Khan to consider is the fact
that by doing all this, he is wasting his own time. Think about it – what will Khan achieve by being a media star. Will it help him to regain the titles? Not really. Once he is in the ring with Peterson, all his presumptions will be on a side and his capabilities
will count.
As far as we know, Peterson looks like the more serious who guy who has already said ‘he can die in the ring than lose’. If that is the spirit Peterson has then Khan is surely in trouble. Moreover, some analysts are even of the view that Khan is extremely
frustrated and he is not in the right frame of mind. If this is so, then chances of Khan winning the fight are even low.
Probably Manny Pacquiao is the only man who can set Khan’s mind right. If Khan is actually training with Pacquiao then the Filipino should teach Khan how to be ‘serious’ when going for such a big match, especially when that match has been made on his appeals.
For now, all we can say is that Khan has to be good enough to take Peterson down this time, without any pushing and pulling.
