  1.      No, it is a highly embellished good ole Hollywood magic story. Even the real guy who killed his family said those things did not happen and cause him to kill.

What happened was that the real people who moved in after the murders knew about the murders and were facinated by them. Here is where the human imagination is so powerful. They were so emotional that they subconsciosly caused this stuff to fabricate

  2. Uh, duh!!! Though, the movie does kind of exaggerate it a bit.

  3. No, the oldest DeFeo Child didn't Kill his family over voices that he supposedly Heard in his Head while living at 112 Ocean View Drive in New England, It basically boiled down to a spoiled son who wanted more money from his Parents. He even went so far as too stage a hold up with a friend, this led to a fist fight between him and his father in the basement of the house. Many believe that this led to the murder spree that evening.

DeFeo Changed his story many times over the course of the investigation, from it being a Mafia Hit planned with his oldest sister, to using the insanity plea to receive a lesser sentence. While the Doctors did find that he suffered from Antisocial disorder they deemed that he was sane to stand trial.

Then walk in the Lutz's, this is a couple who were paid well to pull off a hoax by a magazine, over several bottles of wine. Nobody that lived in the area ever reported seeing or hearing anything strange coming from the old DeFeo House. This was just a opportunistic couple who saw a way to make an easy buck and walk a few mile in the lime light while they could. nothing more. I do believe that supernatural places exist but this isn't one of them.

    Sorry!!

  4. It's based on some occurences in a house. But, no one really tested that. They just liked the idea.

  5. It happened in Ohio...yes it is true....thinking of making a sequel yourself?....just kidding-wendy

  6. Ronald "Butch" Defeo really did murder his family at 112 Ocean Ave., Amityville, Long Island, New York. However, the haunting was entirely made-up.

  7. Yes, the story about the Amityville Horror is based on a true story. It really did happen. And I would think as well that parts of the movie were exaggerated just to make it more exciting.

  8. The book is supposed to be based in reality, but I'm sure there are some embellishments.

P.S. Read the book, it is much scarier than the movie!

  9. go to the truth about amityville story.com and find out for yuor self.

  10. Allegedly it's based on a true story but I've never seen an interview with the family.

I think it was just hype to sell the book and the films.
