  1. I think so, yes.  So you could say the U.S. was attacked and its peanut farmer in charge sat on his hands for 400 plus days.

  2. YES.  This law has been in place since this country started having embassies in foreign lands in the 1700's.  The land on which the U.S. embassy is located in a foreign country is considered U.S. property and the same is true for every foreign embassy in Washington.

Look at "Julian's" answer.  It shows everyone how misinformed, absent of common knowledge and stupid he is, blaming Bush for his stupidity.  Are you a Katrina survivor also?

  3. George is really the only one on track here so far.

  4. Yes, though on a different level.  The embassy is diplomatic, not precisely territorial.  Attacking the Embassy Tehran is not the same as attacking Pearl Harbor. It's apparent that Pearl Harbor was part of a military operation to conquer the USA while taking over the Embassy in Tehran or bombing the Embassy in Africa was more political.

Complicating events is the concept that those who bombed the African embassies are not easily located while the Japanese cooperated by wearing uniforms and flying a flag.

The Marines main function is building security, not really to stand off any attackers- that's the function of the host country, and that leads to reciprocal trust and confidence.  If you can't trust the locals, you don't want to risk your own diplomats.  Might be one reason we still don't have another embassy in Tehran. That one of the original "students" from the Tehran takeover is now in charge of Iran might be another.  I think the State Department does not believe that Tanzania and Kenya were responsible.

  5. Yes, it is.  Of course there will be investigations and it is not always the host country's fault, they may be questioned if response and reaction times were not up to norms.  However besides that, most countries would be stupid to carry out a deliberate attack on an Embassy in their country, as all fingers would point to them.  Most Embassy attacks are done by terrorists who have no national allegiance.

Funny you should mention an Embassy in Africa too, that's exactly where I work.

  6. Since the US embassy represents the US in other countries, an attack on the embassy is intended to be viewed as an attack on the US.  That's the whole point.

  7. Do not be afraid about the Bush propaganda. he likes US people live in fear.

  8. DAAAAA..of course it is!!

  9. By most countries yes,  that land is technically the owning countries soil.

So attacking it is attacking that country.
