Is Ana Ivanovic That Good?

Question

well, yeah. she is the current number one in the world. but do you personally consider her the "number one" in the world?

coz i think she's still NOT YET AT PAR with the willamses and sharapova. and i think her compatriot jankovic has the better capability to upset any of those three players or at least take a set away from them. what do you think?

She probably won't finish the year #1 (although that's still debatable at this point), but she is that good.  Maybe not yet at the same level as the Williams sisters and Sharapova in terms of career grand slam success, but she can compete with all of three of them on any given day.

The WTA world rankings are compiled based on the performances of players over a 12 month period. Ivanovic is number one because she has been the most consistant over that period. In this respect, I think she deserves her rank as she's simply performed better than her rivals. In head-to-head competitions, she might not come off too well... but the ranks aren't about that.

However, I do think that if Justine Henin was still around, she would be number 1.

No, after watching several of her matches, she doesn't seem like number 1 player.

I think she has a good potential and good intentions in tennis. She deserves it so far, because all of the other players are a little shaky in the grand slam debuts.

Ivanovic is improving a lot and she deserves to be World No. 1 based on her performances this year. She currently tops the Sony Ericsson Championship Race Points. I agree with you that she's probably not yet as consistent as the Williamses, but she is certainly at least on a par with Sharapova. Sharapova is very inconsistent and just had a good spell at the beginning of the year. She's been awful since Australian Open.

As for Jankovic, I think she's overrated. She has a 1-5 record against Ivanovic, a poor record against Sharapova which I can't recall and worse head to heads with almost all of the top ten!  I don't think Jankovic has the capability to beat them and has a lot of her game to work on - serve, forehand etc...

She is actually very good in certain courts. Grass is not yet her strong forte though. She truly does play very well.

I am a fan of Venus and I can say that next to venus, I like Ana's game.

i think she is good but the williams sisters and sharapova are better. they have more experience and have harder strokes. ana just needs to get adjusted more to the tour and she will get much better.

No. She just had so much points thats why she became number 1. She really have a hard time controlling her forehand stokes. No.2 Jelena Jankovic is even better than her. She should not be compared to Sharapova, the Williams sisters, & Henin, because those 4 are way better than her.
