  1. i've never seen him preform an act of bravery, so no he's not a hero.

  2. he was a great player but he is no hero, i think the drugs really changed the way i look at him and i dont think kids should be idolizing him

  3. No he definately is not. He is a poster boy for dysfunctionality, but not a hero. Unless you applaud drug use.

Idiots will say that he is not a drug cheat, however Wendell Sailor served a two year ban for recreational drugs, while Newcastle and Johns covered it up.

He was a decent footballer, but also a drug cheat. Man he still looks half cut when they go to him on the sideline... that is why not.

  4. Yes, he changed the way the game was played and will be played in the future.

  5. no way in the world he did not even deserve the halfback of the century Allan langer did!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  6. overrated

  7. YES, most 'gifted' player to ever strap on a boot and steered Australias domination over the Poms and Kiwis!

  8. lol h**l YES!

I am biased since I'm a Newcastle supporter and any guy who can win us premierships is a hero in my book, but honestly...

he grew up in the coalfields and worked hard to get to where he went with the game, played for his mates and got drunk with his mates. Within the context of the current sporting climate, he's a deadset legend (named in pretty much all the teams of the era he was eligable for) and I think we'll look back in retrospect and he'll be among the Dally Messengers...a superstar in the game.

For those who have an issue with the whole drug-taking thing, I recommend that you read his book "The Two of Me". At first I was a little like "I'm not going to waste my time reading that" like some of you obviously will be, but having read it now, I appreciate the situation a lot more...just please don't be blind to the fact that there are two sides to every story.

  9. Johns was over rated!!

Other than that he is an absolute disgrace and should not be mentioned in the same sentence as Langlands,Messenger.Lewis and even Fittler.

Johns took illegal drugs while playing Football and as such should be scrubbed from the records of the game.

Anyone who uses the "hes only human" line is an idiot.. Mike Tyson is only human so i guess we can justify his actions in biting Holyfields ear off.

  10. of coursee he is, noone has or ever will be such a success and talent as him, he is the best not only halfback but player in the history of nrl!

  11. no he took drugs

  12. Andrew Johns might have been a good footy player but no Australian hero. An Australian hero would not:

    - take drugs

    - have 2 failed marriages

    - be a party boy who spent a night at a nightclub getting smashed before an important semi final game

    - disrespect an elder

    An Aussie hero:

    - fights for our country

    - is a good role model

    - eats his vegetables and vegemite

    - is a great person

  13. Apart from being a drug cheat he was also a complete wimp in hiding behind an "illness" instead of taking responsibility for his actions like a man.

    Hero...........far from it.

  14. no way he was so over rated, dont get me wrong though he was one of the best but to be called a hero,i dont think so ,what has he done for the game or does he do any charity work like big willie does !

he aint no hero personally brad fittler, mal meninga, come before andrew johns

  15. Way too much hype around him and as good as a halfback as he was, he was no Peter Sterling.

    Good player, but no hero.

  16. The word hero doesn't apply to a first class athlete/sportsman. After all, what heroic deed did he perform? He is one of our most accomplished sportsmen ever and one time best in the world of RL but as for being a hero, no.He is to be admired for owning up to his drug problems however.

  17. Personally I never liked Andrew Johns, why I'm not sure, i guess they hype around him made me not like him. I think he is a great league player and he will go down in history as a league legend but an Austrlian hero.. personally no!

  18. No way, I never liked the guy so I asked around and found people in Newcastle who swear that he is known to the cops for domestic violence.  True or not I don't know but maybe that's what I didn't like about him.

To be a hero you need to be one both on and off the field!

  19. of course he is a Australian Hero. 1 of the greatest Australian sports men ever
