Question:

Is Andy Murray a future top-five player?

He's probably having his best year, winning two titles, reaching the QF at Wimbledon (beating Gasquet in that thrilling five-setter) and now two consecutive semifinal appearances at Masters events. He also beat Djokovic for the first time in Toronto. He's also beaten Federer twice and is one of the very few with a winning record against him. Is a top five ranking in the foreseeable future? How about a Grand Slam win? Which Grand Slam does he have the best chance of winning? Oddly enough, he said is favorite surface is clay.

  1. yeap, definitely

  2. I would say yes.

If you take the top three players out of the equasion, you have Ferrer, Davydenko, and Roddick rounding off the top six.

Murray, along with a few others can definately compete with those three players and who knows, with Roger's complete loss of confidence in his game, it opens up even more opportunites.

He's got some work to do though. He's 1090 points behind # 5 Davydenko at the moment but he'll pick up some points this week with his good showing in Cincy.

  3. Yeah, because I think Federer is going to drop of the Top-5 real soon

  4. he's playing really good right now and he has a lot of potencial so if he keeps playing like this i think next year he can make it to the top 5

  5. yeah i completely agree, last year he was pretty quiet but i think he was training and improving fitness, it has certainly shown. i just watched him against moya. looked in control and strong. your question on top 5. i definitely think he will become top 5. he is still very young and hasn't reached his peak. I think in a couple of years, he won't be as good as nadal but could give him a run for his money. Grand slam?well clay may be his favourite, then i would have to say the French, but i think Wimbledon is good for him, everyone supporting him, if he needs a mental boost and edge over his opponent, it's there. i think he will win the French sometime and Wimbledon. Although i don't think he'll win many those two are his best chance.

  6. Was Tim Henman once ranked #4 in the world? Yes he was.

Is Andy Murray around the same level as Tim Henman? I dare say he is.

    2+2 equals 4.

  7. yes he will be, becuase he has shown he can beat players such as djokovic.

  8. Yeah, I think so.  After all he is insanely better than Ferrer or Davydenko and they are in the top 5.   I think he has a chance at winning the US Open later in his carrer.

  9. If he stays healthy he could get as high as #3. I don't see him ever passing Novak or Rafa, but he could be really good.

  10. I think he will be in the top 5. He's pretty good.

  11. he might fade like the typical british and american and australians do these days! the eastern europeans, southern europeans, russians and in the near future asia especially china will be the major sporting powers!

  12. i think he probably would had this type of year last year but his serious wrist injury slowed his development coz b4 he got injured he and djokovic were neck and neck in the atp rankings and both were quickly moving up.

But for Andy at the moment is making up for loss time after suffering his injury and trying to get himself where he belongs which is in at least the top 5 or maybe even beyond. But he needs to stay injury free in the next 2-3 years and continue to improve areas in his game and if  this does happen he has a shot at doing anything.

But staying injury-free in the next 2-3 years are important for his development, as we have already seen how much 6 or 3months out with his wrist injury has hindered his development already.

  13. He is beginning to find real consistancy. He was consistant last year but this year he is a consistant 1/4 final +.

Andy Murray-Like Federer will be the complete player later on in his career unlike the likes of Nadal and Novak who are virtually there right now.

Once Murray gets there he is certainly a top 5 player. But as for a future number 1....well we will see.

I think Andy is a real contender for next years Aussie. I think if he can go into this years US Open as a top seed(top 6) and does well it will be a very valuable expierence for him.

I really fancy his chances for next years Aussie. Whether he will go as far as to win it we will see. But I don't think he is far of a first Grand Slam semi final.
