I say that they'd better be given a chance ... they were 3rd overall in the world cup.

  1. Yes it would be great. I heard South Africa and Australia are big on the idea. But Argentina doesn't want to, cause most of theyre players are playing club rugby in Europe. In my opinion it is a huge pity. Theyre my second favourite team. Springboks is my favourite ofcourse =D

  2. I am the All Blacks supporter and i really liked how the Argentinians played in the World Cup and really think that Argentina deserve the place in the Tri-Nations. If they go to Europe, they would have to go to the other hemisphere and fans wouldn't want that just because a lot of them play in Europe.

  3. Shame, they're a great team! But I guess it would be better if the tri-nations had another team considering there are so few teams.

  4. I think the Tri-Nations makes more sense anyway.  For one thing, they would have added an extra weekend to the 6N, and the tournament is big enough.  By making tri-nations into quad-nations (or whatever they call it), they'll fit into the already existing byes.

More importantly, they wouldn't have had home games in the 7 Nations.  They would have had to have used Spain or Belgium as their "home" country.  This would overshadow the national team where they played, and would also have deprived Argentine fans the chance to see their team live.  I think that playing big games IN Argentina is actually quite important for continuing to grow the game there.

Also, even though most of their players are currently playing professionally in Europe, that's not necessarily always going to be the case.  And it shouldn't be that big a problem anyway.  The Tri-Nations is played during European club rugby's off-season.  That way, there will be no conflict for the Puma players; they will be available to come to Argentina (and SA, NZ, and Australia) during the northern hemisphere summer.

I think that, in principle, it has been determined by the powers that be that Argentina must join the Tri-Nations soon.  This will obviously raise their game tremendously.  I think it will also be of some benefit to New Zealand and (especially) Australia, ot face regular competition from a team that is not afraid to slow the game down and force a battle of wills up front.  That is certainly what doomed the Wallabies in the World Cup.

  5. Good idea, NZRFU is still considering, be a lot off added expenditure to matches played abroad. But Im sure they would be able to recoup that through matches. Will have to sit tight and wait and see what happens.

  6. Argentina are going to phased into the Tri-Nations over the next 4 or 5 years.  They need to meet certain criteria, the main one being most of their players have to play their rugby in Argentina.  Until then, they've been given a few extra matches per year to compensate.

  7. I'm a Bok supporter and would like to see them in a "quad" nations tournament.  I very much liked their game and style in the past RWC.

What i didnt like - which seems to stem from football (soccer) - is the way they whine, whinge and moan at the ref like 6yr old schoolboys.   Their mardonna was exactly the same.

Not sure if they can keep up the good play year-on-year but there sure is room in the tri-nations.
