  2. Yes. Assumption day.Public holiday

  3. The whole of August is French Holidays - really really busy.

It's best to out of that month if poss.

  4. August 15th is the Feast of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary and is celebrated by Christians, especially Roman Catholics, around the world. In France Aug. 15th is a holiday but is mostly ignored for its religious significance except in (specially) Brittany. If you happen to be in Brittany on Aug. 15th you should visit the Folk Festival on Menez Hom, the highest point in the area. It is a spectacular day of music and dancing when the local people dress in their most attractive traditional  costumes. If you are able to go make sure to take your own chair as sitting on the grass can be uncomfortable due to what the french call "le pic pic."
