Question:

Is Australia's crime rate worse than the UK?

Boastful Australians often tell me what a wonderfully safe paradise their country is and how they can't wait to get back to such security, obviously, we all know this isn't the case in most countries, but is Australia really as safe compared to a lot of countries as Australians would like to think?

For a country with a significantly lower population than the UK the crime rate seems to be significantly higher than the UK, and the sheer violence of the crimes in Australia seem to be more brutal and more frequent. Murders, rapes, drive-by shootings, and unprovoked violence seem to be the norm in Australia, if you read crime news in Australia there is clearly more violent crime than the UK, and it is more freqent.

Everyone tells me how much safer Australia is in comparison to the UK, but when I read about how many nasty bits of work their are in Australia per capita, there seems to be much more than the UK.

  1. Well here is a map for you showing the top ten countries with the highest crime rates, and England is 6th, while Australia is not in there. That is the best you are going to get as you will not accept NationMaster statistics.

  2. They are more than likely referring to acts of terrorism. At least it's safe to ride the trains in Australia.

  3. Speaking for myself, and having lived in both countries for a long time in each.

I have been less affected by crime in Australia, than I was in the UK.

  4. It's no worse in Australia than anywhere else in the world.
