If by Australia you mean in a government sense then, yes, we have a christian prime minister, and predominately christian parliament. As far as citizens as a whole though, we are a multicultural country... Most (but not all) private schools in Australia are Christian based (catholic, anglican, uniting etc) but we have churches (temples, mosques, all religious places of worship) in our country that represent more religions than I could list. We embrace people of all faiths and have many different spiritual perspectives across many different cultures.

The Australian Government claim to be christian but look with your eye open and you will see that they do not live by the laws they preach.

By that I mean they do not look after the peoples needs and welfare. Quiet the opposite they tax the poor and keep them in poverty.  When the rich get a way with what ever they like ripping off the people.

The people and corporations that do not need any more funds are given grants and low cost loans a the drop of an hat. They also have the most influence on any government and they us the money to by the parts of all the right legislation that they (Companies ) want.

Take the petrol companies and you see they do what ever they like with no fear of government interference. the professionals like doctors and drug companies charge what ever they like and nothing the government does will stop them. That is why government claim to be Christian so they can say they work for the people and get away with doing nothing.

Look at it with open eyes and you will see the truth.

No country is Christian only people can be Christian. When you put Christian in front of any word that does not mean it changes the nature of it...

Try Christian rock music.

Technically, yes - we are still subjects of the Queen, who is Defender of the Faith, etc etc, and we have only ever had Prime Ministers who are practising Christians.

The Catholic Church plays a big part in daily life here, since many Australians are of Catholic Irish origin.

Practically, though, I would think that most Australians of European origin are atheists these days, or at least agnostic. Plenty that I know go to church and pay lip service to Christianity but they don't really believe in it. There are also plenty of Jews and Muslims, Hindus and Sikhs, Buddhists and (ran out of other religions, lol) living here.

We are a mixture of all cultures and religions, most of us are I suppose, as their are many different types, but on a whole I would probably say yes! :)

Australia, like America has a strong pseudo Christian culture in it's beginning (and still now though not as strong)

The fact that most people were Christian in the founding of Australia affect the kind of values that the government put together.

But Australia has decided to be a secular nation with a clear separation between church and state.

Australia is not like most middle east countries that actually use Islam Sharia as their law thus calling themselves Islamic Nation.
