  1. Tough Question ,where would I start?

Geograthy: In the mid west of the states you have the corn belt etc with many states and cities.

In Australia it is desert, small population.

Does not get as cold here, alot of it is due to warm ocean currents.Mountains are much smaller and alot less snow.Australia reaches much more into the tropics compared to the USA heads south.

We are a very Multi Culturial country, much like the USA.

We have a great less people here with Africian origions to you guys, but that is now changing.

The Liberal party here is roughly the same as the Republicians. Our Labor Party is pretty much the same as Democrats. The Labor party is in Federal Goverment at the moment.

It  would  seem to me when I was in the USA last year traveling overland by car from LA to Chicargo That you seem to have a lot more rich prople than here. But on the other hand you seem to have many more poor per head of population.

I would say the working class here have a better startard of living and are to be payed more by the hour.

Also our poor are funded much more and for life with benifets from the federal Goverment.

If people are begging here ,which is rare, but is starting to happen, thay are more than likley drug addicts or just blown there Unemployment benifets.Really the unemployed here can live quiet well .They may not think so,but have they been to the USA?

We also don't have that many people living in trailer parks here. The poor can get Goverment or subsidised housing.

I think Americians are much more religous than here also and much more patriotic.

these are my ovservations of my trip.Loved it there and heading back in May

    Hope that helps

  2. Brent's not far off.

Australia is the size of America but most of the inland in inhabitable. The majority of the population resides on the coast. Our weather is much more consistent and less extreme, i.e. no snow in winters, except on a few moutain ski resorts.

Our culture is extremely multicultural, but adapted to the Australian way of life, we love our beaches and Australian traditions.

Politics is much the same as the states except voting is compulsory in Australia. We have a 3 tiered system with Local governments, State governments and Federal government.

The don't have so much class distinction in Australia, there are no really poor or really rich like in the states where the differences between the lower class and upper class are very evident. Most of Australians would be classified as middle class with some at the top end of the scale and others at the bottom. We have few homeless people and few billionaires. Our cost of living is relatively high, being compared to that of New York.. Our income and wages are alot higher then those in the states and we don't rely on tips.

  3. WHOA no way. the climate is completely different, there is no smog, it rains tons more than here around all of the coastal areas, the weather is beautiful, the people aren't s****., the people are really relaxed, jobs are easier to get if you are younger though, the government sucks, the welfare sucks, they will treat you like c**p if you are unemployed. but i would definately suggest moving there because there is nowhere near as much politics as here in usa

  4. Punk, the cars are more expensive here because there's no snow, which means there's no salt used on the roads, which means a lot less rust - I'm sure you've had mates live on the coast who's vehicles took a beating very early on....

Essentially, Australia is a lot like Canada.  In almost every way, except for the two languages in Canada.  Now I can hear you 'oh no, Canada is cold, and well Australia....'...

    Just hear me out...

They are of similar size, population, demographics, density, social standing.  Even the people act strangely different.  Canada is America's young sibling...Australia is the UK's...they're both very new countries...

There is also the extreme weathers (different, but pause similar challenges), which make two third of the countries *almost* inhabitable.  I say almost because I have met people in the Red Centre and Great North who quite happily lived there.  Both countries have an aboriginal community, with more tribes that you could count....

The differences, are probably what's most interesting...Australia has its own flora and fauna....where I live, there's an island off the coast, which is only a few km across....and it has a few species on their which are found nowhere else in the world (it's like a mix of a rat and kangaroo)...In Australia, the Aboriginal community is still very resistant to change (and rightfully so), fearing the loss of their culture.  Australia has the most venomous creatures (I’m not sure if it's like 78 of the top 100 or something), so many bugs and spiders.  They say that it split from the rest of the world very early on, which enabled the animals to develop completely differently.

Hope this helps - you should really just come some day, it's a beautiful country.  I really do fear the day I'll leave to go back home!!!

  5. u will find our houses and cars are older but for some unknown reason more exspensive u will pay like $4000 for a 89' commodore. our politics are different and campaigns a lot shorter for federal positions, u will find it very hard to get guns so ther is alot less gun murders than in someplaces in America, and pretty much wat the comments above have stated
