I use Avira Antivir, and do far i think it's been doing well. I don't know if i should trust it being able to detect as many viruses as possible on my computer. Does scanning in Safe mode make any difference? Can more viruses be detected in Safe Mode, if there are any? And what else should I have to feel safe that my computer won't be wiped out. I don't really care for ym computer except for my pictures and videos. Those are memories that I would hate to lose and I have no way of backing them up right now, so I have to keep my computer safe. What do I need? Can I depend on Avira Antivir?

  1. Hi,

yes Avira AntiVir is one of the best AV on the market today.

Look at the test from May 2008:

Except good AV you still need some security software as an addons which gives you full security.

I mean software offers you very strong HIPS security i.e. Defensewall (paid), GesWall (free or paid) or Firewall with implementing HIPS i.e. Online Armor (free or paid) either Comodo Firewall PRO (free).

Thats all. No less, no more.

My configuration: Avira AntiVir Premium + Online Armor

And remember - prevention is better than cure!

    Cheers!

  2. I have never used Avira, but I do use AVG and have not had a problem. AVG self-updates and auto-scans for you. I have not had a single virus get through to my machine with it.

You can also use the tea-timer and other miscellaneous functions of Spybot Search and Destroy (found for free on the web) to monitor your computer's changes.

Those are the applications that I use and have not had a single problem so far.
