  1. Read Bluecabo's answer.  Its the best for cabo area!

  2. Well, it depends on what your budget is.  My husband I just came back from a 4-night trip (first week of August) to Cabo from Indiana and our budget was $2000.  I went through Expedia to find a flight/hotel package, which saved money and left us some for souvenirs and whatnot.  Going there during the low season also saved money.  It was hot, but nice weather and it was nice seeing the scenery without a lot of people around (don't get me wrong, though, there were plenty of people).  We stayed at the Melia Cabo Real, which is a very, very nice all-inclusive resort, so all your food and drinks as well as shuttle service to Cabo and some outdoor activities and other things, are included.  Staying at an all-inclusive will save a lot of money on food and transportation costs.  Plus, the Melia is located right on the resort corridor between Cabo San Lucas and San Jose del Cabo and is on the only other swimmable beach front in the area.  Medano beach is the other swimmable area, but is also a more crowded area and is right in Cabo San Lucas.  We also rented a vehicle so we could drive around the area and that cost $200 for the cheapest vehicle and insurance.  But, be warned they drive crazy there and we never did figure out all their rules of the road!  Everyone warns about staying away from the timeshare vendors, but we did take advantage of two timeshare presentations to help save money.  We got $200 to pay off our car rental and a discount card for tickets to all excursions for the first one and we got free tickets to any excursion we wanted for the second one (we went on the Tropicat sunset cruise, which was awesome!).  The presentations only took a couple of hours out of two of our mornings, which was fine for us because it made us get up early and they provided our breakfast (both were very good).  So, we still had tons of time each day afterward to go do the things we wanted to do and saved money at the same time.  Plus, the timeshare places we went to see (Villas del Arco and the Palmilla) were beautiful and worth seeing (even though we were not interested in acquiring a timeshare).   If you want souvenirs, buy from the street and beach vendors.  For one, you will get nearly the exact same stuff from them as you will find in the shops, but it will be much, much cheaper.  Plus, the money will mean more to them because vending is their livelihood and the minimum wage for people there is only $5-7 per DAY, so just think what selling a $1 or $10 item means to them and their families.  By the end of our trip, we still had money in our pockets.  So, it all depends on what you consider to be cheap or expensive.   We had a perfectly wonderful time and it didn't break the bank.  If your budget is less, there are lots of options.  We didn't choose the cheapest resort or the cheapest flight option and you can choose a resort that is not on the beach.  So, there are basic ways to save money on a trip like this.  Just do lots of comparison shopping to find the best deals online.  I found Expedia to offer the cheapest packages, but that can always change.

  3. Yes, if you're planning to go to Los Cabos then yes, this is one of our most expensive beach destinations..... you'd maybe want to switch for Mazatlan (across the Cortes Sea from Baja) or farther south to Puerto Vallarta, in Jalisco....

  4. Yes, it is very expensive, if you want to stay in a nice resort and go to nice restaurants.

But we also have budget hotels, and cheap places to eat.

In San Jose del Cabo, we have Sr. Mañana Hotel and Ceci's, that runs from $30 USD a night. You may consider to eat at the tacos and hot dogs stands.

Also try the lady outside the church who sells 10 pesos tamales ($1 buck each). With 3 tamales, you have the best and cheapest dinner ever.

Get the Lonely Planet guide of Los Cabos, many tips that can save you money.

    Enjoy Cabo

  5. Cabo itself will probably be expensive, yes.  You could also fly into La Paz, then rent a car and drive over to Todos Santos, then down to Cabo.

La Paz will offer beaches that are just as beautiful, with lagoons for fishing and snorkeling.  Todos Santos is a small artist town with quaint shops, but as it is growing in poplularity, the pricing on goods has gone up there.

I crave the food (get some arracherra tacos!!!) and prices are reasonable.  Hotel is moderate--$60- lots more for 4star per night
