Is it legal to give a horse at a boarding stable banamine without the permission of the owner?

Honestly they might have signed some sort of contract, so if its not your business you probably want to stay out of it.

Banamine is a prescription drug. Many horse owners keep it on hand because it is an effective medication for colic. It relieves pain, and in some of the more serious cases of colic, fights some of the dangerous toxins that may be released from the intestinal system into the bloodstream. Read up on it.......

If my horse was to colic I would hope there would be a person around to give him a shot of banamine Before the vet came I have seen to many horses die because the vet was out on other calls and could not get there fast enough..Legal I am not sure Animal cruelty yes

It would be illegal if it is not your horse but if it your horse go ahead but warn the operater of the boarding stable to let him know

No, it is not legal in my area...I doubt it is legal anywhere in the US, but I'm not sure.

EDIT to brezzy....banamine does nothing to treat colic....all it does is relieve pain.   Whatever intestinal disorder is producing the colic will continue to progress despite giving banamine.  If your horse colics, your vet should be called immediately, and he/she may or may not want a pain medication administered since it may mask the symptoms.  The barn management should not be making that decision without permission from the owner, or if the owner has given permission to call the vet in emergencies, the barn manager should follow advice from the vet.  Before you start alleging animal cruelty, you should know what you are talking about.
