I googled to do a comparison of cost of living in Chennai and Bangalore.

The following links suggested me that Chennai is cpstlier than Bangalore.

http://money.cnn.com/pf/features/popups/costofliving/popup05.html

http://www.finfacts.com/costofliving.htm

http://www.prnewswire.com/cgi-bin/stories.pl?ACCT=104&STORY=/www/story/06-26-2006/0004387489&EDATE=

But from what I heard from my friends, Bangalore is much costlier than Chennai. I would like to know the reality and also would like to know websites which could give some authentic info on this.

  1. It depends on your  living style and location choosen,  Bangalore offers space opportunity fecilities comodities for different class of people.

you can live in bangalore with Rs.6 to 8 thousand a month and also with 15 to 20 thousand . you get everything as per your requirements. you have cheaper schools, costlier school, it again depends on your purse. But common man can also live in banglore with his meager income.

  2. Am a chennaite and Bangalore is definetely cheaper in many ways than chennai.Food is a lot cheap and tastes good. Food is about 40% cheaper than chennai. Autorickshaws meters are accurate and they give back change exactly as per the metre which is not with chennai autos.

Weather is excellent in bangalore where as Chennai experiences 11 months of summer and add to that the CROWS nuisance in chennai....!!

  5. Chennai is definitely cheaper.

  6. No way!! atleast as on date.

  7. chennai is cheaper and far better than bangalore.bangalore traffic is a nightmare..,rents are unjustifiable.

  8. Rather, Bangalore is costlier than Chennai.

I have lived in both places and find that Chennai is a lot more cheaper in the following aspects:

    1. Local trasportaion is cheaper: with a lot of share autos, cheap transportaion in MTC busses and local trains

    2. Lot of varieties of Vegetables at cheaper prices

    3. The cost of food items in hotels though comparable, i would still say it is a bit cheaper

    4. With better quality of roads, the fuel consumption of personal vehicles are cheaper

    5. Rented houses are 20% cheaper than in Bangalore

    6. With shops in T.NAgar that offer textiles and other home ancillaries at throw away prices it is again cheaper.

    7. Weather being hot throughout the year you (i speak about middle class in the sense they donot use AC) donot have take bath in hot water.

    8. Cinema houses are a lot cheaper than B'lore

(Some areas where Bangalore has a advantage is:

    1. Cheap water supply

    2. Less utilisation of fans, AC - but now with climatic change ...??)
