I do not believe barclays' a equal oppotunity employer at all. I applied for HSBC, Bank of Ireland and Citi bank all have positive feedback at least stage1 invited me for further numerical or verbal tests. I got strong relevant experience and academic performace but they turn my application down initially based on my 2 yrs tax office and accounting experience and my 2nd class finance degree??

I've looked at their website. under their any of the programme I can not find any profile other then british/ english faces...I'm Chinese.

Please give your opinion.

  1. They are.  It's a competitive field.  They may just feel your personality wouldn't be a good fit.  There are more things to consider than your experience and the fact that you're Chinese.

If you really feel discriminated against then you should take your concerns to the appropriate government agency for a review.

  2. if you feel that you have been treated in such a way .. then take it further.. they don't have to invite you for an interview if they don't want.

but I know 2 women who are Chinese that are in finance and earn STUPID amounts of money..

your degree was a 2.2? if it wasn't a 2.1 or a first.. then thats more the problem I guess.. since banks have such a choice of uni students..  maybe with 2.1's and firsts.

just go elsewhere.. they do the aptitude tests, for a lot of jobs, but as much as my skills with computers etc are good, translating that to words etc.. is a different matter.. I have more a creative brain than a logical one

    just apply elsewhere =)
