I would really like to go next summer and I want to know if anyone has attended Barnard College's pre-college summer programs for high school students. Is it worth your time?? Are students attending there nice???

and if you haven't gone to barnard college's summer program, how about Columbia's, or Brown's, Princeton's, Vassar's, or Cornell's?????

or programs like Summer Discovery, SIG, ASA, or iD Tech camps??

  1. the issue you raise is about if something is "worth" the time.

The simple answer is that YES, but is tempered by the caveat that you get out of it what you put into it. More importantly, you will be exposed to a different style of teaching and learning, see how college profs deal with various issues (my dog ate my homework etc) and generally get an idea of the rigor of college. MOST summer programs allow you to earn college credit to transfer out, so that means less you have to take in college (if the credits are accepted).

  2. Absolutely. I went to Bryn Mawr one summer and Columbia for another--both for Creative Writing. I learned so much, produced lots of good work, and got great recommendations from my teachers, which were helpful in applying to college. The students are really nice...I liked Bryn Mawr better because it was very small, so you get really close to the girls...but it's more academically rigorous and serious, so don't go there if you don't want a quietier summer. Columbia is fun because you can go out at night and whatnot.
