  1. No.  The Basque Country is in the northern Atlantic Coastal area of Eastern Spain and Western France.

Barcelona is on the Mediterranean coast, near the opposite border with France.  They are Catalán, there, and Catalán interests are their issue.  They, too have had a seperatist movement, but I think that autonomy, right to use their own language, teach it in the schools, and determine their own taxes and laws, etc., has made the Catalán people happy.  I haven´t heard of any dissention or violence in the area.  Only ETA (the Basques) causing problems from time to time.  And they often target places where people aren´t or people who specifically "need" to be made aware of something.  Not so often just random terrorism.  though I wouldn´t rule it out completely.

  2. No, not particularly, although they have been active from time to time throughout Spain.

This is a map of Spain, diveded in autonomys ( like states in the USA),

the Basque independence movement acts only in País Vasco and a bit in Navarra and south-west of France, ETA terrorists, actually, sometimes put bombs at any place in Spain.

There are another movement for independece of Cataluna ( Barcelona ), but not violent, nothing to do with Basque people, an another one in Galicia.

    Oh! I am Spanish.
