Is Beijing too polluted for the Olympics?

Beijing is the world's dirtiest city. And apparently even with factories closed and 50% of vehicles off the road, the air in the city is still very polluted.

  1. I don't know there you got your information from but Beijing does not even make it into the top 10 most polluted cities.

    http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/15320729

But unless someone takes from unbiased air reading we will never know.

  2. All those smoke are produced by the gas chambers that the Chinese are using on the Tibetans. In the last 3 years while building for the olympics millions of Tibetans have been murdered, political dissidents have been shot in the streets of Beijing and Tibetan owned businesses burnt to the ground by chinese troops.

  3. Yes, but also polluted by human rights abuses and with the blood of innocent Tibetans who wish to live in freedom.

  4. Where did you get your "opinion"?  Did you just made it up?

Check out the source.  Have you been to Beijing? Or L.A.?

Ever been to L.A. Olympic or Atlanta Olympic?  I went to both.  Neither city's air was great.  Not to mention Mexico City.

  5. Like all major cities they are going to be polluted. Its all BS played up by the news to make China look bad.  China is no more then other major cities.

  6. No, Beijing is fine

    .....

  7. I think it will drive home the message of todays pollution problems - To the world !!!

Society is turning "green" like never before.

Major players in the world ( USA , China, Mexico city etc.) see it everyday.

throw in the world wide audience in other countries that don't have the problem and you have more people aware of the severity and may join the green bandwagon and benefit all

  8. China has some of the most polluted cities in the world, including what is most widely regarded as the most polluted, Linfen. While Beijing is very polluted (on my last visit, people across the street were hazy and only on the weekend the sky took blue tone), it is far from the most polluted or dirtiest.

If you are sensitive to poor air quality (e.g., Los Angeles during warm weather is too much for you to handle), traveling with young children or infants, or pregnant, then yes, you probably should avoid going to Beijing. But I read that Beijing will ban as much as 90% of the cars and temporarily close all the factories if necessary, so it shouldn't be too terrible otherwise.

  9. I think you don't mean dirtiest, as in litter everywhere but as smog in the air and polluted water. If that is really what you mean then, yes I believe it is too polluted for the Olympics. From the footage I've seen (Travel shows, News), it looks exaggeratedly smoggy. Even Beiging's own citizen's wear protective masks while they are outside...that's pretty bad. I know they have taken steps to try to clean the place up but i doubt long enough time has passed to make the environment decent enough. Not all of the events will be outside but is the inside much cleaner? Do all the buildings have air purifiers? I doubt it.

  10. Yes, and too full of human rights abuses too. Boycott Beijing.

  11. The world's dirtiest city?? Where did  you get the facts? Please send me the link of your findings so I can check it out!
