Is Belize a dangerous place?

You have to be alert all over Latin America.  My hubby went backpacking all over Central America and got his stuff stolen in Belize.  I have lived in Honduras and you have to be vigilant everywhere you go.

no, it's not, it's beautiful.

the inland areas are all jungle and mayan ruins.

the cayes (keys, islands) are a caribbean paradise.

the people are super friendly.

and they all speak english.

like any foreign travel, you have to watch your surroundings, and i wouldn't stay in belize city too long, it's not dangerous but the rest of the country is nicer. but belize is less dangerous than most places in the US.

It depends on how you and your grandmother define dangerous.A large part of the country is jungle and there are always inherent dangers in the jungle.There is also some petty crime in some of the touristed areas.There are also some very poor people in Belize,and like the poor areas of any other country there are some violent crimes from time to time.

It really depends where you go and what you do in Belize (or Los Angeles or Boston or ?) whether you encounter anything dangerous.I have lived and worked there in the past and never had a problem.
