My puppy is a 9 week old pit bull. I was playing outdoors and he got stung by a bee on his tail.... In another question I posted, I asked what I can do and everyone said to give him a small dose of Benadryl or Tylenol. Is it okay?

  1. NO!!!! i repeat NO!!!!!

a friend of mine once had a dog and a cat who broke into some

the cat died on the spot, the dog suffered extreme brain damage

  2. Benadryl is ok but you need to call the local ER if your vet is closed to see about the dosage.  Good luck!

I didn't mean a HUMAN ER...I meant a veterinary ER....jeez people we are in the DOG section.

  3. benedryle is safe for dogs the dose  is about 1mg per pound of dog , NO tylenol or ibuprofen .   but maybe call your vet just to check .

Ive always been able by vets advise  to give my dogs benedryle for several different things .

  4. It is okay, but you need to check dosages with your vet.  I've had to give Children's Benadryl to my pup before.  Don't give him tylenol, that's not good for them at all.

  5. It is okay, but you'll need to check with a vet on dosage.  My Golden Retriever could only have half a pill at about 30 lbs, so you'll want to be sure to not overdose!

  6. Tylenol is NOT good to give dogs.  DON'T give Tylenol.  As a RN in an ER I don't think we would be give out dosages for dogs.  Benadryl is ok for dogs.  His dose would depend on how much he weights.

  7. No.

You really shouldn't give an animal any kind of human medication without the authorization from the vet.

There are so many things that could go wrong.

If the area is swollen, wrap an icebag in a towel and put it on the tail to lessen the swelling.

If it seems to be an allergic reaction (which is what benedryl is for in HUMANS) then call the vet.  They can recommend what to do.

I know giving benedryl seems to be the easy thing, but better be safe than sorry!

  8. NO Benedryl is NOT safe for a puppy. Tylenol is POISON to any dog. Do not give your dog Benedryl just because someone tells you it's okay. You should talk to your vet, and then he'll tell you if it's a good idea, and how much to give a dog of that size. A dog of 9 weeks of age, should never be given a drug like Benedryl for a bee sting. You don't even say that he has a reaction to the sting.
