Im planning on living in wonderful Berlin for a year for an exchange college program, but im afraid that the cost may be too high because of the euro and the dollar differences. the euro is stronger than the dollar and i just want to know if it is liveable there and the cost of supplies. THANKS!

  1. relax and sit back: Berlin is one of the cheapest european cities. Of course the dollar - euro exchange rate is not on your side, but if there is one west-european city which is affordable, it is Berlin!! It is even one of the cheapest german cities regarding food and flat rents.

    My personal living costs:

rent for a big (shared) flat: about 300 euro all inclusive (with internet, gas, water and all this stuff and telephone). there are also cheaper ones for about 200 euro (www.studenten-wg.de for shared flats!)

    mobile phone: about 20 euro

food and stuff from the supermarket: about 100 euro (cheapest ones are aldi, lidl, plus, netto), without clothes and books and stuff of course.

going out: about 150 euro, if you go out 3 or 4 evenings a week (cinema, clubs, bars)

So you can get along with about 400 euro, really comfortable living is about 600 euro!

  2. well i'll suggest you to go to Paris, since it has a better college programs than German. ( my cousin went to Paris, and now she is a success woman!!! :D)

  3. Paris is very very expensive, Berlin not. Expensive City here in Germany is the Munich. I know the Euro is so high and you get problems with that in all EU.

Berlin is very nice, don't think is the capital from Germany and is very expensive there. I was four times in Berlin, you can buy and eat different places and the prices are OK.

Special for students, there is so many of them.

Have fun, I know you love this city....

  4. Hi! I'm German - living in Germany - and my husband is American. I can tell you that you will loose money due to the exchange rate. However, if you are provided living (rent is outrages in large cities over here!) then you should be fine! There is a big variety of stores and malls you can shop at. I hope this helped a little. If you have more questions I'm more then willing to help!
