Is Big Brown worth a $50 mil stud syndication?

I remember everyone saying Secretariat didn't turn out to be that good a racing producer, that his daughters actually were the better product in the long run.

Is this horse that great a stallion prospect? I guess I'm just not that impressed here, am I missing something?

I'm a little leery.

He's inbred 3x3 to Northern Dancer. That's a little too 'appalachia' for me.

There could be som eundesirable genes lurking somewhere - but he is a fine horse.

Not an all-time great horse - so I'm a little happy he did not complete the TC sweep.

His feet are very brittle. Derby winners command high stud fees. I'd take the money and just retire him before he has any more issues.

There is a theory that if a 3 x 3 inbred horse does ovecome losing 'hybrid vigor' and becomes a top runner he may also be a valuable breeding commodity.

I suppose there are two sides to the coin.

Is any 3 year old horse worth that much.Must be somebody shelling it out.The answer  will not be known for 3 or more years when the foals begin to race.$50 mil is alot of bred mares.take quite a few years of stud fees to earn that much.Good idea to do it now while they still can.Do not chance running him again.

secretariat did not pass on his running style to many

of his babies. also alydar did better than affirmed as

a stud. $50 million is a lot of dough, but if he is a

failure as a stallion, it would not be the first time

people put up big money at got burned....remember

cigar....could not even produce babies.....but the check

did clear.......
