Is Birchwood the same as Fruitwood?

I am buying a wood dining table and the store clerk told us we would be better to go with fruitwood instead of Birchwood. He recommended a manufacturer Bermex and said we could order either one. On the Bermex website it only mentions birchwood. Hence my question is birchwood the same as fruitwood?

  1. No, Birch wood (two words) is a blonde wood from a Birch tree.  'Fruitwood' is a generic name for wood from any one of a variety of fruit-bearing trees.  Generally, Birch furniture would be kept in a natural color, and fruitwood furniture is stained dark to try to look like more-expensive mahogany.
