  1. selly oak is very much a student area, as with anywhere there are good and bad parts there

its not fantastic but not as bad as some parts of birmingham

  2. Not especially - sorry.

  3. Many uni students live in Selly Oak, but, to be honest, it's not a place where I would want to live.  However, I'm not a student and am too old to know what students look for in the environs of their lodgings. If you want ethnic variety in culture and eating places and take-aways it's fine. But Selly Oak  tends to be crowded and the main A38 Bristol Road which passes through it is a really noisy, usually jammed solid, road. However, it is easy to get into the city centre and all the amenities there and, going out of town, it is just as easy to get to the wide open spaces of the Lickey Hills.  I reckon you'll get to like Selly Oak !!

  4. Its not the best, but does have a large student comunity

  5. It could be worse. It's where all the students live and they don't seem to mind it.

  6. Selly Oak is a strong student area, lots of student houses, shops and near to the univ.  There are posh bits and those that are run down inner city, but it is generally green and pleasant with good road and rail links for south Birmingham.  Ask around and visit the student union in the next month before everyone packs up.

  7. It's not too bad, Bournville is very close by, which is a very sought after area of Birmingham. Some parts of Selly Oak consist of older type terraced houses, but the streets are reasonably quiet. Selly Oak Hospital is one of the best in the Midlands, and my Son was born there 32 years ago. There are many worse area's of Birmingham you could be living.
